Last night after a live RAW from the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana went off the air, Roman Reigns won in a dark match over Bray Wyatt. Despite being in the building and ready to compete, the only mentions of Reigns were that he was going to announce his plans for SummerSlam next week.
Reigns and the WWE were in an interesting situation last night as RAW faced what turned out to be the series winning game of the NBA finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. While RAW’s ratings have hit some record-breaking lows in the last few weeks, the WWE was not going to win the war against the NBA last night. One would think the WWE would have put on who they perceive as one of the company’s biggest stars to help keep the ratings up, but with fan reaction being so negative towards Reigns, maybe the WWE decided not to use him on television after all. The WWE has also been accused of not caring about television ratings as much anymore so Reigns not appearing against such still competition may not be related to each other.
Not only will we see how the show fared against the NBA, but also if Roman’s absence made a noticeable change in the ratings when they are released soon.
